The eagerly awaited spring is approaching with ever bigger steps. The season when, after a long and arduous winter, joy, warmth, and energy appear.
The sun is beginning to appear more often from behind the clouds, temperatures become pleasant, and a soothing breeze drifts across the cheeks. It is also a time of changes in nature that we observe with the naked eye. What might intrigue us in the coastal fauna and flora around Gwiazda Morza? What is worth noticing during walks in the area?
One of the characteristic signs of the coming spring is the increased activity of birds. From dawn, their trills and songs that herald the end of winter can be heard. Some of them return during this period from trips to warm countries, where they spend the harshest months of the year, while others, on the contrary—fly from Poland, where they winter, northwards (e.g., to Scandinavia). There are also some bird friends who stay in Poland for the winter, but during this time their singing is not as common as in spring when their mating season begins. The sounds of birds accompanying us during walks in the Coastal Landscape Park are thus a sign of the spring approaching with greater and greater steps.

Although coastal birds are mainly associated with gulls or terns, many more bird species can be found in the Coastal Landscape Park. We encourage enthusiasts to practice birdwatching, i.e., observing birds in their natural habitat. Often, there is a chance to encounter truly unique specimens, including guests from the North! A pair of binoculars is enough to transport yourself to a completely different world. Sounds interesting? In spring, we have the opportunity to observe how nature literally awakens to life. The first spring flowers appear, catkins bloom, and trees sprout buds that soon turn into lush green leaves. Such natural circumstances are an excellent occasion to explore the coastal walking paths and admire the changes nature undergoes.

Spring is a period of increased activity for many animals. Some wake up from winter sleep, others have given birth and are introducing their offspring to life, and others simply enjoy the warmer time of year and pleasant rays of sunshine. One of the more interesting animals that can be observed in their natural environment near Władysławowo by the sea are... seals! These animals like to sunbathe, and in spring, when temperatures pleasantly rise and there is plenty of sun, they can be seen on the sand, basking. The sight of a seal on the beach is certainly fascinating for both young and old. Who knows—maybe luck will smile during this year's spring walk!

It is said that you can feel spring in the air. Along the Baltic Sea, this is definitely true. First, there is a noticeable rise in air temperature, which becomes more and more pleasant for our bodies month by month, allowing us to shed successive layers of outer clothing. Second, the coastal wind transforms in spring from cold and piercing to pleasant and refreshing. Third, spring air by the sea contains a lot of iodine, whose highest concentration is recorded within 300 meters from the shore. In spring, there is more iodine in the air than in summer. Spring walks on the beach are thus excellent for the body and health.

With the rise in temperatures, the number of storms on the Baltic Sea also decreases, with the fewest occurring in summer. March is the last month when we can hope for numerous storms. There will be significantly fewer in April and May.

Spring changes in the Baltic Sea Just like on land, the underwater world undergoes a series of changes with the arrival of spring. The Baltic Sea comes alive with the arrival of warm months. More sunlight and greater depth to which it reaches contribute to a rise in temperature, creating optimal conditions for the growth of microorganisms, algae, and other plants. Fish and other animals inhabiting the Baltic mostly look for mates at the end of winter and in spring to give birth to offspring. This is truly a fascinating time in Baltic nature! Great news for tourists is that the water temperature in the Baltic rises during spring months, allowing not only fans of winter swimming to bathe in the sea. When conditions allow, by the end of May or early June, the Baltic water temperature can permit pleasant swimming.
